Directed by Jake Kashdan
If the first movie was about four high schoolers from different social groups becoming friends, This second one is about two former best pals/business partners (Glover and DeVito) getting one last chance to reclaim their friendship.
Sure, there are angry herd of ostriches, mandrills, and homicidal warriors from the icy fort thrown into the mix and even a couple of jump-worthy moments on bridges with monkeys, flying horse and of course each character has 3 lives!
The moments in which the film’s blockbuster stars play memorably against type are quickly subsumed by the ugly chaos of the action!
But, at its heart, this franchise is about finding your tribe, your people, your team: the unconditional friends who can help you overcome the toughest odds and the most perilous situations!🤣
There’s no sense of escalation to The Next Level, with each set piece almost instantly collapsing into a busy spectacle of eluding stampeding animals, running across rope bridges, and taking on waves of enemies.
There’s no weight to any of these sequences, nor to the game’s new villain, a brutal conqueror (Rory McCann) who embodies all the laziness of the writing of antagonists for hastily assembled sequel!🤣
Rating 5/10🤣🙈🤣🙈🤣🙈🤣🙈
