புத்தம் புது காலை is basically an anthology of five short films (six, if you count the two sub-plots in Sudha Kongara's film) totally unrelated to each other, but happening in the Covid lockdown backdrop.
Keep in mind that not all the movies are for adults or even adolescents. Also, I won't be getting into the morality of the lifestyles of the characters in the films. For, they convey something deeper about human relationships on a broader canvas that the flaws can be kept aside.
After watching the entire movie, especially the first three (directed by Sudha Kongara, Gautam Vasudev Menon and Suhasini Maniratnam), I started pondering about relationships in our life. How much do we really care about them... Whether we really love them but do not have the time to express ourselves or explain ourselves to them, or do we just live with them to abide by social norms...or do we really share enough time and love for them...how much do we acknowledge them meaningfully... how much do they mean to us...
Why do we fight and argue with them...
What's the ego in us that sometimes stops us from even being in touch with them for generations in the family tree... What is resilience in life (beautifully captured in just a few scenes in Suhasini's movie, especially with veteran, octagenarian Kathadi Ramamurthy acing it as the central character of the story)...
Are we really living our lives meaningfully despite limitations and challenges that life throws at us...if yes, what is that meaning that we attach to it...
I'm not even reviewing the other two films in this "movie". I enjoyed "Miracle" by ace director Karthik Subbaraj, though it doesn't fit into the genres portrayed in the first three films.
I didn't pay much attention to the film by Rajiv Menon much. To me, it looked just OK.
However, as a movie, the questions it left me with, this one truly deserves a ***** (5*)
