Saw Lucifer on the first day, first show, on the front seat to boot.
The film is a toast for Mohanlal fans. It's an out and out Mohanlal movie and a mass entertainer, albeit a dark one. When compared to other Mohanlal potboilers, the actor par excellence has much less to do in this one. Mohanlal has been presented with grace and towers over all others with his mere presence and body language. Vivek Oberoi, as the suave villain has done his part well. Overall, the casting was good, with all characters, however, short their screen time, doing full justice to their roles. Was disappointed with Manju Warrier's role in the film. The storyline didn't have much of a role for her. Tovino's part could very well be termed as a guest appearance.
One aspect worth mentioning is that all the characters have shades of grey in them, including the leading man and woman. You will be tempted to draw parallels with contemporary Indian/Kerala political figures and developments.
On the directorial front, Prithviraj's maiden venture does not seem like one. He is full of promise. For his first venture, he has chosen to play it safe by sticking to the time tested potboiler formula. However, he has shown much restraint when it comes to playing to the gallery.
There are some good punch lines which will be thrilling to Mohanlal fans. The background score was jarring at times.
Overall, a good commercial masala entertainer. Will it leave a lasting impression Will it gift some unforgettable moments? The answer to those questions will depend on your expectations from a movie experience. 'Lucifer' will definitely entertain you, though it may not essentially be an uplifting experience.
