If you're a longtime fan of the Mario Golf games, then you'll be disappointed by this one. Off the bat, advtenture mode was so lackluster. You can use your own Mii and interact with theses little towns and creatures within the mario world, go to little cafe's and little clubs, but there's nothing else to do with it. Customization is very minimal, Mario Golf World Tour for 3DS had it best in terms of customization where there were hundreds of club and clothing options. This game only has 1 set of clubs and clothing per town to match with the weather in that area. It's nice to have your mii go into this little cafes and shops with koopas, goombas, etc and see their amenities but you can't do anything with them, which sucks. It's like playing Animal Crossing but you can't do anything other than talk to the townspeople.
The 6 courses also fall very short. The game seriously needs more casual courses that don't have soo much going on within it. One of the best things about Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour was the memorable music paired with the beautiful nature scenery. This game has neither. The soundtrack isn't memorable and the scenery just doesn't pull you in at all. The CPU's are all on a stupidly easy difficulty than can't be changed at all, which is utter nonsense. Not every gamer wants to play on easy, it's annoying and makes the game unenjoyable when you realize that you could suck very badly at this game and the CPU will still do worse than you.
As other people have said, the Camera controls suck in comparison to the Gamecube version (Toadstool Tour). Back then you could just move the analog stick to freely see where the ball is predicted to go and look around. Now you can only get an annoying overhead view, or an even more annoying gyro control view that doesn't help. Back then your shots had you manually handle power and accuracy, but of course because companies set game difficulties to ultra easy now, it's all done automatically by the game, which is annoying. I want to play the game how I want to play it, not by letting the game CPU make auto accuracy shots for me. There's NOTHING to unlock, so story mode is a complete waste of time. In Toadstool Tour each character had a different power shot, different angled shot, different maximum yards they can hit, different technique, etc. But in this game the only thing that's different is how far they can hit. At that point I have no incentive to play any of the other characters.
All in all, the game isn't great. If you want a great experience go back to Mario Golf: World Tour for 3DS or Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour for Gamecube, those were the BEST that Mario Golf has to offer. The only decent thing about Mario Golf: Super Rush is that it's going to get free DLC updates, but when the base game doesn't offer much to begin with......yeah this game was a complete waste of time and money. If you're a longtime fan of Mario Golf, you'll likely hate it, and if you're a new fan to Mario Golf then you'll likely enjoy it. Honestly it feels more like a brandless golf game that just has the name "Mario Golf" slapped onto it. Summed up, Mario Golf: Super Rush is just a lackluster and dumb-down entry into the longtime series that fails to live up to the glory of it's predecessors. All Nintendo had to do was make the game the EXACT same way they made Toadstool Tour, add new courses & Characters, and done, a perfect Mario Golf game.
This is the kind of game that you'd only rent for 1 weekend, return it, and never play ever again in your life.
