If you think JJ had a shot at making this what fans really wanted to be pleased with, then you are very blind. In the context that he has to wrap up the saga with the extreme messiness of, "The Last Jedi", then he did mostly what he could. LET'S not forget, this is the SKYWALKER SAGA. Last Jedi did not do anything for what was already layed down and hardly anything bee that was interesting.
Let's just say the obvious, that the bulk of professional critics are not real star wars fans. There's no way when they loved, "The Last Jedi", and are surprised with, JJs response in the Rise of Skywalker. The Rise of Skywalker is obviously far from perfect but I will say JJ did a good job with the messiness disney presented him with.
There are some very cool things(mostly subtle) nodding to star wars lore outside of the many nostalgic fan services. The film often seemed very rushed. I mostly blame that on the last Jedi. There were many things that were rushed that should have been already done in the last jedi with more detail. All in all this did have the spiritual and/or unconditional loving message that is star wars. Entertaining and emotional. Go see a Star Wars.
