For a $30 DLC, I felt it was a rip-off after getting through the additional features within 4 hours of rehashed fights and cinematic cutscenes. However, I did enjoy fighting as other characters, especially when all guardians of light teamed up. That was a blast and the graphics are absolutely spot on. Major kuddos to the development team. The joint attacks are glorious and the music to accompany these battles is ASTONISHING. Yoko Shimomura really nailed it.
These are my thoughts in short after playing through the DLC:
Pros:
-Play as other characters (very, very briefly)
-Witness ‘behind the scenes’ scenarios that’ll hit you right in the feels
-Some questions answered
-Fun combat and beautiful graphics
-Wicked hard boss battles post main DLC
-Beautiful music
-Radiant Garden crew is life and short tempered Cid is terribly amusing
Cons:
-Extremely short for a $30 DLC
-Mostly recycled endgame content
-100 more questions needing answers
-Not much ‘new’ additional playable game material
-Kairi got a smidgen of fighting spotlight and her voice actor is cringeworthy (imo)
-Basically a 3.5 hour cinematic with 30 min actual gameplay
-ZERO Radiant Garden exploration
-Conclusion? Don’t play to expect one.
I enjoyed playing, but it’s not something I’d go back again and redo. Personally, I don’t care about the photo mode— I prefer putting my time into the actual gameplay and story. KH1 and KH2 are the best games story wise— especially KH2, in addition to its battle system.
The DLC is enjoyable for specific aspects, but it wasn’t my cup of tea. After all the marketing and hype done for it, I was expecting... more.
Do I recommend it? No. In it’s entirety it can be watched on YouTube and you’re not missing much— if any— new gameplay worth $30. But if you’re a die hard fan and must have everything KH then yes.
See y’all in 2050 for the next KH installment.
