Dear Mari Okada. This film teeters on problematic more than anything else. Despite the many unwanted, and voiced unwanted advances of Muge towards Hinode, she still harasses him and continues to do so throughout the film. The only thing she does as a cat is actually stalk him. It makes sense that he would not want to be around her but he would want to enjoy the presence of a cat he loves and cares for. The fact that he has to feel bad for someone who has been harassing him because she flew out of a building to attack two people talking about him... and was made to feel responsible for her departure or the rescuing of her when she ran away and saving of her on Cat Island... It's not okay. No one should have to save their harasser. Even if they came to understand each other better and she realized her behavior was completely NOT okay, the most they could have become, that was still healthy, was friends. Not for him to say he "loves her" after literally saying he knows nothing about her repeatedly in the film. It's not okay. This film also being rated TV-PG sort of implies that kids -- specifically girls -- are allowed to harass the people they're interested in because eventually they'll realize that you're also hurting deep down as well and see you for the awesomeness that you are. Why didn't her parents, even her step mom, come save her from Cat Island? A lot of issues started with them. Why wasn't that resolved besides in the credit scene? It's not okay. Her friend who stuck by her and was supportive but also realistic with her, she was it. Such a good friend. Her step mom, so supportive. Muge owes them, and ESPECIALLY Hinode an apology.
