This was a fast but really hard read. I don't know how anyone could not be changed by it. Ms Bazterrica has done a massive amount of research for this book. And the ending was shocking. It was not what I was expecting, but when I think about it, it was not out of character at all, nor could the story have ended any other way. This is not escapist-reading. It's so timely - consumerism, capitalism, misogyny, legality, humanity, so much more, all in one short book that never mentions any of those things. It will be a long time before I stop thinking about it. (I've been a vegetarian for 50 years. I think I'll have to step up my game.)
