It is too bad the critics are ripping the new CATs movie apart. I’ve directed and produced over 40 musicals so I know the business. I’ve see Cats on Broadway six times. Unfortunately the movie trailer does not do justice to what you will see. This is the first production that really explains the plot and it is done well. And YES there IS a plot. I thought the development of each cat’s character was remarkable. Singing was relevant to the role each cat portrayed. Orchestration was exciting. All this garbage about sexual innuendos is bull. Haven’t people seen how cats show affection to each other. Too bad people have to read sex into everything. The sets were magnificent. The railroad scene, Skimbleshanks portrayed by ballet dancer Steve McRae leaves you breathless with his phenomenal tap dancing. Check him out on YouTube This scene is by far the showstopper and made me want to leap up and applaud. And by the way the new digital fur technology was spectacular! I’m heading back to see it because it’s so full of creative ideas it’s too hard to take in on one viewing. The new song Webber and Swift wrote is beautiful and very touching. Im not a Jennifer Hudson fan but her portrayal of Grizabella was the best I’ve ever seen. People around me were in tears and I was also moved me to tears. Ian McKellen played an outstanding Gus and though I was skeptical about a female Old Deuteronomy, well Judi Dench nailed the role. Bravo Tom Hooper for stepping out of the box and bringing CATS to a new level of artistic beauty.
