I think it's starting to make sense overtime you're done greiving over the depressing yet peaceful ending of this story.
I was wrong at some point of how I'm trying to make sense of this game. It's intentional to make it depressing and unsatisfying. It's intentional to make players feel empty and desolated after Ellie's closure of hatred over Abby and Joel. The theme revenge to forgiveness was great in this writing, portraying so well for the players that were attached to Joel to feel the same as Ellie, only to feel empty yet finding solace that the ending is it and only it for to be the end of Ellie's arc.
The sequel subverted everyone's expectations, yet it fits for this game to be like this. Because the game is pointing to realism (consequences and the thirst of revenge to the point of desparation.) of how everyone would never be satisfied, yet you can find this game's POV that it's peace that they're trying to give despite the depressing actions that lead up to it.
Honestly, the writing is almost a masterpeice if it weren't for some flawed writing characters and the pacing.
This is at least what I think the game is. It's disheartening, yeah, but it's a unique sequel of a revenge story that nearly no one would par of.
