I love this play, and this was an interesting production which I'm glad to have seen. The visuals were fascinating. Kathryn Hunter was riveting as the witch. But Frances McDormand and Denzel Washington's interpretations seemed strangely muted, lacking in energy. Same goes for Brendan Gleeson as Duncan. These are fine actors and I was hoping for better. Tastes vary, of course, but I'm baffled that when historic productions are discussed, mention is rarely made of the filmed version directed by Gregory Doran with Antony Sher and Harriet Walter in the principal roles. Maybe this is because it is difficult to find, but it can be seen on Vimeo or found in some public libraries. In my opinion, it is unsurpassed in just about every way. Polanski's version is quite different, but also very, very good.
