I found this series to be disappointing. I was expecting another intriguing Masterpiece production from PBS. While there were many skilled actors, some of the characters did not have the complexity or depth I hoped. Ultimately I lost interest and stopped watching.

This PBS 4 part drama series is unrelenting in the depiction of a family’s life going wrong. I stuck with it, believing that there might be something positive in what it had to offer. Unfortunately, there was nothing positive, and nothing hopeful. I was left with sick feeling, wishing I’d never watched it. Very depressing. There was some good acting, which is why I gave it 3 stars instead of the two I’d planned on.
