This is going to be a decent review and very biased because I am a writer and I see flaws in all stories and movies. I am going to start this off with the pros and end it with the cons.
Pros:
The concepts of the movie are interesting and very enjoyable to an extent. The designs and the tone of the movie had a very great effect and affect of the movie. Some scenes where really thought of and thorough. I give props to the animators for having to animate the creatures the group calls Vesps because animating a swarm of anything takes a whole chunk of time to render. I know this from experience.
A few greatly known actors are involved of the movie and they maintained their very best at executing their parts. I appreciate the actors and actresses to take their time to act.
Con:
Let us all read my brutal truth. This movie is as if Bird Box and The Quiet place had a child. They can't make sound as The Quiet Place and they have a group of antagonists at mean nothing to the story like Bird Box. Bird Box opened The Bird Box Challenge while The Quiet Place had a biased point of view from society.
In my opinion, the vesps, no matter how many days the animators took to make them come to life on the screen, look like aliens from the Alien saga and bats had a child too. They have no original look and at some points they look like they were cut onto the movie in certain scenes.
Netflix succeeded in Mowgli even though they had a hard critical moment because everyone lacks the understanding on how facial recognition works. The animals looks real enough for me to love Mowgli. The Watership Down, despite the fact most of the movements look forced, had some very relaxing and enjoyable visuals at time. This movie had no visuals that were exciting to me.
The dog in the movie was a no use dog that they simply had to kill off. That was a predictable move in plot and every single thing the dog did was bark and act aggressive when it felt dangerous. I have seen dogs bark and the fur standing up looked fake. Dogs' fur doesn't stand all the time when they bark. I have two dogs and I watched them close enough the last few days and hours to see if it was possible. I am sorry but it was not real. Dog's fur doesn't do that in barking, but it does stand when they growl.
Soundtrack was okay. It was relaxing and it was boring at some points in the movie.
If you want to watch it because you are curious, watch it. If you are not, then do not watch this movie. This movie was slow and predictable and everything in the trailer explains the most part of it.
Finally, the verdict:
Soundtrack / Music - .5
Visual - .3
Story - .4
Symbolism - .5
Actor Performance - .8
Total: 2.5/5
TRY AGAIN NETFLIX. YOU STILL HAVE GREAT MOVIES. CAN NOT WAIT TO WATCH THE FUTURE MOVIES.
