I gave this show 4 stars for the acting quality as well as the action. The story plot was well thought out I feel like until the 6th and 7th seasons. Seasons 1-4/5 were well written and seemed like it could be a reality. The show definitely caught my attention after understanding the background of the show.
The world ends (circa 2050 I believe) due to an AI letting of 7 of China’s middles, created by a woman in space who eventually comes to earth with a new perfected AI that can control this prehistoric time warp orb that can transport you to different planets. After a rebellion arises in honor of her death this breeds what the show will call “Grounders”. A century or two after earth is inhabitable “The Ark”, a giant spaceship made up of the last of the human race, sends 100 juvenile delinquents down to earth to see if it’s survivable.
The plot twists and action was unmatched in the first 4 seasons. Things started to take a creative turn once prisoners from another ship, that was in cryo-sleep, come back down to earth. This eventually leads to the second bombing of earth leaving everyone to retreat back into space. Low on supplies for everyone the unanimous decision is to put everyone in cryo and wake them when they get to a survivable planet. After traveling the stars they get to a planet called Sanctum which is ruled by human deities. This is when the show climaxed for me and it began to wind down in the last seasons.
After the 100 landed on Sanctum as a viewer I began to think what else will they add to keep this show going? I personally didn’t like how Clarke’s character was so bossy and in control, it’s like no one dared to test her power. As if she had any. Other questions arise like what did they eat? Where did they use the bathroom? How does electricity work? How did they high jack a ship and travel 3 light years away without having to get fuel? In the last episode how does Clark bring a physical weapon into a spiritual realm to kill someone?
In all I liked the show, I really wish some characters didn’t get killed off so early or just didn’t die in general. Spoiler alert: when Clarke killed Bellamy surely I thought he would stay alive but no he for sure died. And for what? Nothing. The ending was so lame to me because everyone BUT Clarke transcends and a couple of her friends come back to earth so she won’t be lonely and I thought that was the most corny ending they could’ve had. Who LEAVES heaven to come back to a deserted earth with 8 other people? We’re literally going to die. After all of this.
