People may find this book dry but I do wonder if they're actually paying attention. I find Holden to be quite hilarious. Using sarcasm and crude expression Holden attempts to explain how peculiar people can be and how he believes that just about everyone puts on a fascade. From my perspective he tells his story of how he ended up where he did. With the glimpses you see of his interactions with others and even from his memories, you can see the confusion of what it's like to be a teenager. Reading this as an adult perhaps you can see that he has severe anxiety, with depression and suicidal thoughts. The unique thing about Holden's character is that you see how much he wants to preserve his youth but craves independence. Through out the book you can see how relatable his character can be as he fights to have a unique connection with someone.
