I was surprised I liked it. The movie is not great. There were moments I felt were a bit dragged out. However, Renee was fantastic. Although she doesn’t sound exactly like Judy, I felt she gave us the essence of who she was. The film gave you some slight glimpses of her childhood as well to give you an understanding why she ended up the way she did. There is a wonderful scene with her and two gay men she meets in London who bring her back to their flat. Very moving. The movies leaves you knowing what a tragic life she had and the price she had to pay for the gift that was given to her. I think Renee was able to covey that exceptionally. It’s worth seeing.

This is a movie that really should be seen on the big screen. I was lucky enough to see it on a big screen in the 80’s and was blown away by it. I had already seen Days of Heaven, so I couldn’t wait to see Badlands. I have watched it several times through the years and in my view, it’s still a masterpiece. It’s the simplicity of it that I love and that it’s filmed on film. I read that someone didn’t like the fact that the director didn’t give us, the audience more information on Sissy Spacek’s character and Martin Sheen. I guess he needed everything explained to him. Personally, I saw no need for it. The movie was in “ the present”. I don’t think the person reviewing the film on this post understood where Malick was coming from. I liked that the two characters show lack of emotion. Most sociopaths do. I just love Malick’s keen sense of America’s vastness and his appreciation for its beauty. He is able to let us see it even though we follow two teenagers on a murder spree. Quite brilliant.

I’m finding it very slow moving. I’m really not interested in the day to day life of these guys. We get it. I like prison movies like Bird Man of Alcatraz, Brute Force, Escape from Alcatraz and Shawshank Redemption. That keeps your interest. You have character development. Here we have no character development of these guys!!! Now that would hv been interesting. Not that interested in how many times these guys are screwing this woman. The interesting part in how they escaped. I’m watching the 2nd episode and I can tell already this movie could have been done in 2 hours. Ok. A two parter.
