Loved it overall!
The visuals, the music, the sound, the casting, the acting, were all really really solid! Really worth the watch!
Was it perfect? Not exactly, yet I'm hoping it becomes something like the "LOTR-of-this-generation", though I don't have my hopes up, but it would be cool if it did. It's a rich world and deep deep themes that is so worth exploring! And my only exposure to Dune are a couple of youtube videos and Jodorowsky's Dune documentary.
While the pacing at points could seem slow to some and can be a critique of the film, it suits the vibe of the Dune world. My only other criticisms are the use of dream shots and Zendaya's acting & character. While I understand the use of these dream sequences, they do sometimes get a bit repetitive and draggy, though I understand its purpose and does put the viewer in Paul's shoes. And Zendaya... I'm not a huge fan of hers, I'm ok with her, but for this part 1, her scenes and lines does take me out of the movie a little. Her parts and character somehow doesn't seem to meld well with the rest of the cast & vibe. I hope it gets better in the next one.
