I read through the one star reviews - to see what the problem was. I can see why some people didn’t like it but the argument that there was too much nudity I completely disagree with. The nudity made sense to me in every scene it was included in. It’s emphasising lust and youth on one hand, and keeping things raw and realistic in the other half. I thought this was a great and interesting film. The end was not as bad as everyone says and I think it uses the body horror well to make the criticism of vanity it is trying to. The acting and affects were stellar as well.

Fun songs and, importantly, a great digestible way to teach your kids about the downfalls of capitalism, government and how the wealth disparity between the poor and the rich increases over time.

One of the least feminist films I’ve ever seen. Honestly feel like in all the feminist media I’ve seen this is a major setback and has derailed a lot of the more nuanced discussion that media has been focusing on in recent years. Felt like I was living in a 2012 feminist tumblr ran by a 13 year old. Costumes sensational, set sensational, writing funny at times with some terrific highlights, editing and cinematography also very fun and fitting. Everything but the plot. More than enough budget, not enough direction.

This was awful, they ruined every character. I want to erase this from my mind.

Didn’t have any interest in the movie after seeing the trailer but ended up watching on it on a late night Netflix binge. It was fantastic. I don’t know why they decided to market it as trashy, woman empowerment and sexy when they could’ve marketed it for was it was -a scathing recollection of the sex worker lifestyle in New York during the 2008 financial crisis. Most of the poor reviews seem to stem from the poor marketing and are not reflective of the quality of the movie. Good job I say!
