To make a looong story short, BL3 is an awesome game with awesome loot, awesome guns and gunplay and badass build diversity, BUT not nearly the same depth of character.
Villains are definitely not as intriguing or cool as Jack was, but are pretty funny if you like a simple version of the type of humor that Borderlands is known for. Still though, on the topic of humor, I can't help but feel that the game has dumbed down its jokes, whether intentionally or not. If I hear the phrase "turd farmer" one more time, I'm gonna email Pitchford and call him one myself.
The Calypsos are funny sometimes, but they are pretty... blandly evil if that makes sense. Take the stereotypes of both a Twitch streamer and supervillain and you get laughing at killing your allies one minute and "LOL like follow and subscribe" another. To be honest the humor can be grating, but it's not always bad. Side quests are awesome, nearly all the voice acting itself is 10/10 (don't get me wrong, it's not the actors' faults that their characters and dialogue are annoying half the time), and if you like weird, goofy guns and equipment then you'll love this game.
However, all this said, it's still a great game, it's still Borderlands, and it's still worth your money. Do be awae, however, that many people (myself included on Xbox One) are taking issue with the stability of the game and how well it runs. I'd say wait another month or so if you're anal about FPS and the game running smoothly, as the UI as well as the game itself are very obviously poorly optimized. 30 FPS on XBOne, and many PC players are saying they're only getting 50-60 with vastly powerful graphics setups. Evidently, you can't get a steady 60 on Ultra settings on PC.
In conclusion, it's definitely not worth those dumb pre-order bonuses for $100 total, but $60 is a worthwhile price for the amount of time that can be sunk into this game, as long as you enjoy multiple playthroughs across multiple characters. 8/10
