Unlike a lot of fans, I was hopeful through the first week. I thought the first two episodes were decent compared to former projects like the Book of Boba Fett. This optimism quickly died while watching episode three. I am all for the expansion of the Star Wars Universe, and for there to be stories that aren’t necessarily tied to the Skywalker family. However, to create a show which flat out breaks the lore of the content predating it deliberately shows the level of care Disney has for the Star Wars fanbase. It is becoming more and more evident what Disney’s priorities are and it is not creating good content. This was the first time I have watched a Star Wars product and questioned whether I was watching the same IP as the original saga.
To be clear, my review is not based on “misogynistic or racist” opinions. First of all, it is weak to label people as those titles when they are not a fan of the sloppy writing or bad acting that the show displays. Two of the most beloved characters in all of Star Wars are Lando and Leia, clearly showing the fanbase is not against any actor that is not a “white male.” My personal favorite character of the sequels was Finn, and my main problem with the sequels is the flat out disrespect they gave to his character. The reason I say this is because a lot of the reviews for this show are misleading. There are reviews stating that “It’s a great show unless you’re a white Star Wars bro.” This is ridiculous. I don’t recall anyone having a problem with Mace Windu being one of the most powerful Jedi. People don’t care what race or gender the characters are. Heck, we don’t even care if they’re human. We just want good storytelling. I don’t want to give up on Star Wars, but with each series, I am becoming more and more disappointed.
