In pre Trump times, this film would have been a powerful fictional account of a possible, though highly unlikely, US civil war. Disturbingly, while the film still speaks for the possible, after January 6 and Trump's continuing dangerous rhetoric, the possible nolonger seems so highly unlikely. A brilliantly directed, written and acted piece of film making.

Overly long and poorly edited. I was hoping Christopher Walken may break into dance. The presumably unintentional reference to the "Life of Brian" was one of the films brief pleasure's.

Unfortunately the story of Napoleon is just too big a life to be contained or adequately imagined within the confines of a film narrative. Scott tries to cover everything, which results in a hurried exposition of significant events while Napoleons very complex relationship with Josephine just can't be developed. Ultimately Scott's first film "The Dualist", also set in the Napoleonic period, is a far better film.

It's not so much that Gal Gadot is exquisitely beautiful, as an actor she brings such a lovely warmth and sensitivity to the role of WW. Nevertheless while the film has some good action sequences (the race across the desert reminiscent of Indiana Jones: including whip) the film for me was a blancmange of good ideas that don't sit well together. Kristen Wiig does a fine job until her character in the end reminds you of the costumes in Cat's: and who wants to be reminded of that. The film was a tad too long.

Engrossing viewing. Very good screenplay and directing leads to very fine acting.
