The critic's take on this movie are surprisingly off-base. It seems that the "slow-burn" has lost favor and the "slap-you-in-the-face" with FX and purple prose is the only sci-fi commodity worth any salt in the eyes of critics these days. Personally, I felt that this movie added more to the sci-fi lexicon than did the big-budget detritus of the last few years with similar narratives like "Gravity", "Life", "The Martian", "Mission to Mars" and "Red Planet". There are clearly a few missed punches here, and I think the sore spot for the critics was a failure to satisfactorily execute the "reveal", but the film delivers a visually stimulating experience with an engaging story and theme.
