This movie is my life literally. My mom and others have always been stuck on keeping the hair straight and not letting your real hair that God gave you which is curly and tight curls be the hair that people see. When my hair starting breaking off because of it being permed all the time that was a turning point in my life. This happened when I was a freshman in high school and my hair was really short once it broke off all the way. When my hair was breaking off I did find appreciation for the hair God gave me which was curly hair. I did go back to getting my hair straighten, but also I learned for some years after high school that keeping your hair natural instead of permed is okay too. I never did go back to perms even to this day. I hate having permed hair, my mom put a perm in my hair since I was 7 years old. My mom would straighten my hair with a hot comb every Sunday when I was growing up and this was before I started getting perms and I hated it. I don't want my child to grow up thinking she has to have her hair straighten all the time with a hot comb or flat iron. When we straighten our hair we are not truly being ourselves we are being what the media wants our hair to be like. We go through keeping our hair straight all the time that we never take the time to give our hair a break from heat and because of that you cause your hair to break off or come out completely. It's better to take care of your natural hair than to keep straighten it and cause it to fall out. You can however have it grow back to the length it was before, but take care of it naturally. Don't get it straighten all the time be who you are. I get this message from this movie. It's an awesome movie. I love the message of being yourself and stop doing what everyone else expects you to do with your hair. Love your natural hair and don't let other people's opinion rule what you do with your hair. This movie also talked about vanity too which is great because a lot of people need this lesson. It's okay to look good, but don't get stuck in your looks or always wanting to be so high maintenance or perfect. Being perfect or high maintenance is not what it's cracked up to be. Being perfect or high maintenance does come with a price and consequence.
