I didn't like this movie. Great singing and visuals, but it contributes to the notion by Black Americans that Africa is culturally homogeneous--that they can claim claim ALL cultures of Africa simply because they are of African racial heritage, disregarding the fact that there are over 5k ethnic groups each with their own individual culture and traditions. Yes, it's unfair that they were stripped away, but unless they can trace where they come from, they can't simply commit cultural appropriation--race never did have anything to do with culture, and not all indigenous Africans are black to begin with. They are can racially identify with Black Africans, but they are CULTURALLY American.
That was the big problem with this movie.
