Incredible film that takes place in real time over the course of 90 minutes. Marshal Will Kane and his bride are married at 10:30 on a Sunday morning, then learn the gunslinger Miller has been released from prison and is arriving on the noon train to take revenge on the Marshal and judge who put him away.
The film regularly cuts to various clocks in town and houses to show the progression of time as noon approaches. This adds to the suspense and enhances the feelings of anxiety after each man in the town declines to help the Marshal and he slowly realizes he will have to face Miller's gang alone.
The film addresses social truths that are as old as time and still relevant today. Evil and tyranny thrive when good men do nothing. Peace is only possible through strength. Social order does not happen organically, it is a byproduct of enforcing the law.
The last scene is so powerful. After saving the town, Kane throws down his badge in disgust as if to say, " you ungrateful cowards, I've risked my life for you for the last time. Now it is time for you to learn how to protect yourselves." He rides off with his beautiful bride, who was the only person in town to lift a finger to help him.
Fantastic film, I will watch it again and recommend to family and friends.
