Play the Last of Us Part II if only for the graphics and world-building.
I never review games and I certainly don’t critique them. I know nothing about the mechanics of game making, but kudos to the artists first please. Every crevice of my screen was a visual feast. The imagination and time consuming detail that must have gone into this dystopian world is beyond me: seemingly nothing was missed.
Although the overall story/plot became almost soap opera-ish and carried some really lousy dialogue, anything less than five stars would be an insult to Naughty Dog’s efforts. Captivating combat between creative new organisations (gangs) and enemies combined effortlessly with their environments. Unpredictable twists, interesting side stories, and the addition of new weaponry highly enhanced the gameplay (however changing the bow reticle isn’t on). And spending equal time playing as two conflicting characters was a smart move for inducing empathy. Also, disregarding the amount of forced guitar playing, second kudos to the sound and music creators.
To conclude, wow. The ending wasn’t satisfying and I hope they don’t make a third game, but I’d definitely play the second again.
