Spoiler alert -
Really good story line, very entertaining and leaves you on the edge of your seat. But the writing leaves a bit to be desired when it comes to character development. The acting is decent but the people are written to be one dimensional and downright provincial. The two main characters are both narcissistic, but no one seems to notice he’s a psychopath, they only notice she is. Lol. Every male lead in the show seems to be written as a philandering selfish liar. And how is every woman, no matter how beautiful and successful, DESPERATE to keep the lying cheater of a man she has? The only one who had the balls to leave a bad situation is Dr Foster, but only after all her friends warn her to stay because she’s so “LUCKY” to have someone to love her. What???? She tolerates the egregious affair with a woman half his age who he knocks up, tolerates him stealing and blowing all of their money, and she only leaves him after he HITS her. And throughout the show, she’s called “feral” and “smug”, but everyone makes excuses for the lunatic husband. She’s called “old” repeatedly at the ripe age of 37 (lmfao), but the men in their 40s aren’t. It’s like the show was written in 1953, with the exception of the main character being a female doctor. At one point in season two in a club, a man says to Dr Foster who is bending over to help a man, “You don’t look like a doctor! You’re hot!” (Um, really? You can’t be smart, successful and attractive? I know a ton of hot doctors!). Even the son can’t understand why everyone else’s mum is making lunches and only his Dad has the time for that, because his Dad doesn’t earn the money (In fact, he takes it!). And she does nothing to defend herself legally as her ex-husband harasses her in season two - like she has no rights. Instead she tries to seduce him to blackmail him secretly on camera, but less out of revenge and more because she wants him (and somehow isn’t at all scared he will hurt her despite all he’s done). The desperation with the women is palpable and absurd. Whoever wrote this show is living in the wrong decade. It greatly detracts from what would be an otherwise interesting storyline.
