Having read the unabridged book and seeing the musical both on screen (2012 movie) and live, I can gladly say that this show EXCEEDED all expectations. In regards to the book, it is the most faithful adaptation to Victor Hugo's marvelous story. This series absolutely sticks the landing and gets it right, capturing the despair, loneliness, and, well, misery that the book describes, something which the musical doesn't get quite right in my opinion. Where the musical ends on a happy and exciting note with the finale, this series ends with the same sadness and desperate emptiness I felt when reading the book. Bravo to everybody who worked on this. This is a must watch for fans of "Les Misérables," as well as for anybody new to this story!
