Eh it's okay I guess
The plot was kind of all over the place, but it did manage to stay together relatively well.
What I don't like about this movie are the characters.
Kristoff is just kind of there in the beginning, then the movie forgets about him for, like, a whole half hour. Then he just shows up in the climax and is like, "Hey, guys! I know I didn't contribute to the plot in any way, shape, or form, but boy howdy, am I gonna help!"
Elsa's character arc with her trying to figure out why her parents were at sea and why they died, but I find the whole twist scene just forced.
She found everything out by looking at some frozen water. Big whoop.
Anna was honestly fine, she wasn't as fun to watch as in the first movie, which was kind of a disappointment, as her spunky energetic personality was a pretty good call on Disney's part.
Olaf was pretty funny, especially in that one scene where he acts out the entirety of Frozen 1, which made me chuckle. I just wish he was more self-aware, like the first movie.
Also, can we mention the scene where he "dies"? No one felt any emotion during that scene apart from that one kid down the street.
You know who I'm talking about.
Considering Disney's villain track record in the 2010s, I expected that one general guy to be the twist villain, but they just went with no one being a villain, which I can't say I'm a very huge fan of.
I think they should've just made the general guy the villain.
The climax just feels, well, anticlimactic. Here's a summary of what happens:
alright so da good guys have ta get da rock trolls or whatever to destroy the dam thats making everyone sad then the general guy tries to stop them and oh ok he's good let's carry on and oh its kristoff and reindeer guy theyre here to do absolutely nothing except make the climax feel more full and oh bye bye dam ooh water going to big kingdom and oh elsa to da rescue and there are no repurcussions whatsoever and oh ok everyone's happy
I wish the water had destroyed Arendelle because it would show how Elsa's and Anna's father destroyed his kingdom, even if he wasn't alive to do so. It would just feel a lot more natural, and a good nice bow to wrap this story together. But nope Elsa comes on her water horse and just vaporizes the entire wave. \(-H-)/ yaaay
I do think the animation as a whole is exceptional, but it's Disney, so, kind of expected. The environments and colors stand out to me, but, as I just said, it's Disney, so not exactly anything new.
I get this movie is for kids, but just because a movie's for kids doesn't give it the right to not be good. Take Tangled for example. It's honestly a good movie, with much more likable characters and a better plot that I think fits in better with Disney. (Yes I know Tangled isn't an original story, but they added enough for it, in my opinion, something else entirely.)
You can watch it if you want to, just don't have very high standards.
