For Doug Douds to quote the "Lost Cause" narrative that the Civil War was fought over State Rights and not slavery is absurd. All issues, whether the loss of the cotton economy, the election of Lincoln, the issue of states rights, and all of the other 7 common "reasons" for the conflict......all of them revert back to slavery. The perpetuation of slavery as an economic institution is the ONLY cause that led to the southern states leaving the Union and in turn, led to the Civil War. For Douds to suggest anything else indicates that he is either totally out of step with the thinking of today's enlightened historians or he is simply a pawn for the "Lost Cause". Either way, it's disappointing that the producers of this show decided to continue to perpetuate the "states rights" malarkey favored by so many in the South.
