Superior color and special effects for the time period. This is one amazing book adaptation and a must for movie buffs and also television buffs since it crossed genre. The production stays true to a fairy tale presentation so moralistic and at times frightening for young children. But and it is an important but, very good family viewing with the positives in the story about selfishness overcome by true love of animals and people. One big disadvantage is that the villain is acted very well by a dwarf and this may be seen in modern values as hatred of dwarfs. This disadvantage could be overcome by a parent or guardian watching the film explaining to the child that the dwarf is only an actor playing the part of an evil villain and is a very good actor. Dwarfs are not villainous by nature but can be good actors in many different roles on television and film. If you have never seen this production and you are an adult then watch and be enthralled.
