I loved it. It is a movie that I have as a TV recording, and I watch it repeatedly. The reality of the racism though painful , is offset at times by the comedic way it is presented. The interaction between the lead actors is a joy to watch from the beginning to the end of the movie. The black pianist is a picky fellow, well educated and a talented musician, who instantly recognizes that his driver is poorly educated yet does not sneer or shame him about it. The white driver who sees blacks as "eggplants", nevertheless applauds the musical talent of the pianist, who constantly does his job and protects the pianist from harm by other white racists.
It is a story of two decent men who over time began to see beyond the color of the other's skin, recognized they had a lot in common and began to become friends.. The subject of race/racism was met head on,,discussed openly and frankly between the two men that was refreshing to watch.
