*I'll warn before talking about spoilers*
The Last Of Us 2 is seriously a spectacular game. In terms of gameplay. Everything from the previous game was brought back, and added to, whilst not making it seem repetitive. I had so much fun actually playing this game. It's perfect if I dare say, and exactly what I was hoping for in this sequel.
That being said, the first game is one of my favorite games ever. But not because of the gameplay. Because of the relationship between Ellie and Joel. That's why the game was so big, and loved by many people. And I felt like as soon as that was taken away, the story was a lost cause. Neil Druckmann took a huge risk with this story. And I think it didn't pay off, and it was a mistake. He said "Some people are gonna hate it, some will love it." Well, why not make a game that he can say "I know everyone will love this game."
**SPOILERS HERE**
I'm not mad that Joel died. But to have him tortured and killed so brutally by his own stupidity is what really ruined this game for me. His death was so rushed, and it made me angry. I also really hated playing as Abby for half of the game. I get that they wanted to have us play both sides to see their perspective, but The Last Of Us isn't about Abby. It's about Joel and Ellie. And as soon as she killed Joel in a horrible way, she was unlikable to me, and I continued to hate her. To have almost every single person killed, except for Abby, was also really stupid to me. The message of this game is "Everyone dies. No one wins. It was all for nothing." I was missing Joel the entire time. It just wasn't The Last Of Us without both him and Ellie. I'm just going to pretend this isn't canon, so I can sleep well at night.
*END OF SPOILERS*
I don't think this game deserves one star, because playing the actual game is really fun. But 5 stars is too generous. It's a story based game. And the story was executed badly. This game is just "eh". It balances itself out with amazing gameplay, but bad story telling.
