Giving this a five because I'm really enjoying it and I think the one stars reviews are quite unfair. I'm finding the games engaging and the personalities interesting; I'm looking forward to seeing it boil down to the end. If you have to follow the full situation at all times to enjoy a game show, I wouldn't recommend it, because the show only presents you with some of the players' statuses and plans at the beginning of each game. Personally I like the format, as it puts me alongside the players trying to figure out a winning strategy with limited information, but also gives me some information the players don't have as an advantage (because the viewer has much less time to figure things out than the players do). Alliances are also a big part of gameplay, so if you don't enjoy a side of political machinations with your mind games, this show is probably not for you.

IT'S VERY GOOD. 10/10 perfect D&D movie; I was nervous going in but it's a masterpiece

I didn't hate this movie, but honestly it felt a bit soulless to me. I think that injecting messages about disenfranchisement, class, and empowerment into Cinderella is worth trying but difficult to pull off. This Ella didn't feel real to me because her struggles, while positioned as a fight against an antiquated misogynistic system, didn't match up with real women's historical struggles. Not to go too into it here, but injecting 'girlboss' feminism into a society where women have few options other than marriage feels jarring. If you're looking for a Cinderella story with a dressmaker Cinderella who wants to institute societal change, I highly recommend "Disenchanted: The Trials of Cinderella", a novel by Megan Morrison, which merges fairytale magic and romance with a compelling narrative about worker's rights.

I've never read the books Shadowhunters is based on because, from what I've heard, Clare's novels are an egregious example of some of my least favorite YA tropes. Still, I started watching this series out of curiosity after reading some very funny posts about it. The first time I tried, I quit in the middle of the first episode. I thought the pacing was strange, the characters sounded like adults trying to mimic teenagers, and the fight scenes were choppy. Although I haven't gone back to rewatch the first episode, I was probably right about all of those things. However, when I was bored and gave it a second chance (starting near the end of the first episode), I enjoyed it a lot more. I think that once Clary is drawn into the shadow world it's easy to forget that she's a teenager, and the show really finds its footing in Clare's urban fantasy. I binged the rest of the show with no regrets, and I'm impatiently awaiting season 3B. This show won't be everyone's cup of tea, especially since I've heard it strays quite a bit from the source material, but I recommend it. Once it hit its stride, it kept me hooked the whole way through.
