I loved the original ff7 game, it was a huge part of my childhood. I've always wanted it to be remade, so I was super excited when I heard that it was in process.
I love what they've done with the characters, and I'll love the game no matter what, BUT:
* I'm 8 hours in and the gameplay feels very "linear". The original allowed you to make the game your own, whereas I'm being told where to go and when. No possibility to go level up anywhere or do things in a different order. I feel like I'm at exactly the same place as everyone else playing it.
* Maps are very rigid. No option to explore or interact very much. It's very much "Here's a path, stay on it".
* Details feel unfinished. Some doors look odd, mouths move weirdly and I've seen Tifa "scoot" across the floor instead of walk.
* Movements are rigid! Cloud walks. So. Slowly. Sometimes I just want to get on and go, and I can't.
* Triangle commands are really slow to be acknowledged. Sometimes it feels like "filler" to make it seem like you're playing when they're just getting you to run around.
We'll see if it improves.
Disappointed to hear how long it might take for the next chapter. I'm going to be well in my 40s before this game is finished (I'm 31).
