Huge Vanillaware fan, but I feel this is their weakest offering.
The story, art, voice acting, and overall concept were excellent. I highly enjoyed the mystery and learning multiple experiences of the same event, a concept expanded upon from Odin Sphere.
Where this fell short was the execution. The story is little more than a visual novel with minimal difficulty or problem solving. Multiple scenes are pointless time wasting, running location to location searching for food, another character, or just flashback cues. VW put so much effort into designing the sentinel and kaiju, yet they are hardly utilized in-game.
They could easily have arranged the battle sequences to play in-time with story reveals, but the separation of story and action is jarring. It feels like to much time was focused on the story, and developers realized they forgot to add an actual game element. To be frank, the strategy game is lazy. Very little depth and horrible graphics from a company capable of intricate battle systems like Dragons Crown.
I'm glad I played it, but its a far cry from the games I expect from VW.
