Togo is one of the most memorable family-oriented adventure films in 2019! Based on an untold true story starring Willem Dafoe as Leonhard Seppala and Julianne Nicholson as his wife, Constance Seppala.
Set in the snowy mountains of Alaska, the plot focuses on a musher Leonhard Seppala and his Syberian Husky named Togo. One day, in the winter of 1925, a deadly outbreak hit their small, faraway town, generally affecting several children. They needed serum as soon as possible to save them, but it was almost impossible to obtain by air due to a fast-approaching storm. Time was ticking and, the leaders of the town agreed that the best way to get the serum was for one man to travel to get it and bring it back home. They decided that Leonhard Seppala was the best man for the job as he was an experienced musher and no stranger to the difficulties of the terrains. So together with his team of sled dogs led by Togo, they willingly set on an arduous journey on the mountains of Alaska. With a grueling 600-mile distance and an unforgiving weather conditions, Can they bring the serum back home to save the children?
This movie looks spectacular. The aerial shots of the icy forest and the ice sheets give you a decent perspective of their journey. And while the outdoor shots give you a sense of a cold, harsh winter, the indoor shots give you a heartwarming feeling. The script is fantastic. It is simple yet flawless. Not overly done, but just the right kind of dialogue you'd need for a movie that centers on a human-dog relationship. Veteran actor Willem Dafoe's acting is impeccable. The kind where you could empathize with him, root for him, succeed with him, be scared for him, and hurt with him. Likewise, Julianne Nicholson's character is as essential as Willem's. She was the first to love and believe in Togo, and Julianne executed it tenderly with a heart. In this movie, the creators used real dogs in all the scenes. And an energetic Syberian Husky named Diesel plays the star Togo. Diesel and all the other dogs in this movie did great. They also deserve acting praises as much as Dafoe and Nicholson because they certainly contributed to this Disney original masterpiece in massive ways.
I highly recommend the movie Togo, especially if you're keen on exciting action sequences and lovely, warm-hearted films. It will let you shed a few tears and makes you want to hug your furry friends.
