Some good atmosphere, some impactful ghost moments, very good framing and lighting, but the plot was painfully predictable. And some of the props and make up were straight up camp and felt very out of place (I'm looking at you, final scene of the movie). The wooden man was a very cool concept, but I think the sculpt would have been more impactful if he was less ghoulish looking and we definitely didn't ever need to see him actually move. That scene would have been much more effective if he was just suddenly in different parts of the house, still and wooden every time the character looked back. It is worth a watch and it definitely has a vibe, I just don't think it was the masterpiece a lot of people are saying it is. Having said that I am looking forward to following the careers of those involved. This one is a showcase of potential.

A very cool concept that regrettably falls apart in the third act. You know it's about to disappoint you when the protag gets all his info from the internet. That's a mid 2000s trope that has no place in a 2020s movie. It also the moment this movie goes from being an interesting mind bender to a cookie cutter creature feature. Still, it's watchable and it is fun trying to spot what you will eventually figure out and look for. Performances are pretty decent all around and there is some very nice cinematic lighting if you are into that sort of thing.

If you hated Midsommar and The Witch because they didnt fit in the mould of what you think a horror movie should be you'll likely hate this movie too. I loved it. The acting was spectacular, the atmosphere was rich, the story unsettling and hypnotic. It's everything I've come to expect from A24 and I look forward to future films from Rose Glass.
