I like the directors westerns very much but in this film Gary Cooper’s agony is over extended as he remains a prisoner of the gang. Mann’s other westerns such as Man from Laramie, Where the River Bends are much better. The gang of outlaws holding Link played by Cooper are led by an old reprobate whose maniacal cackling is a bit overdone while Julie London is miscast. Not a bad watch but not Mann’s best.
