In part an honest depiction of the human cost, horror, destruction and futility of war - especially that of the first world war. But the plot line overstretched one's credulity by a considerable degree with the hero making some unlikely and unbelievable actions. Where in France or Begium is the Rapids and waterfall that the hero survived? Aircraft of that era were built mainly of wood and covered with highly flammable dope, not exactly conducive to burning for any length of time!!!! Overall too many unbelievable scenes that ruined the authenticity.
