Actors can make a movie or potentially break it in half. The same is true for the script and plot of a movie: they can either make a great movie when the actors carry it out correctly, or make it impossible for the actors to do their job amazingly and the actors usually get blamed for it rather than the writers or editors because they are the face of the movie. The latter is exactly what happened in The Perfect Date. I have NOTHING against Laura Marano or Noah Centineo, they are both amazing actors and I love most of their works. But the script and writing of this movie made them seem like amateurs and it was hard to watch. The plot was cliche, every sentence was laced with poorly thought out sarcasm or terrible humor, and *SPOILER* no one who has worked as hard as Brooks to get into the school of their dreams switches up at the last second and applies to one that is well below their standards. It just does not happen... it's kind of infuriating because the movie was going pretty smoothly up until this moment. I don't recommend it's a good waste of 90 minutes... Instead, if you want something sappy and cliche go watch one of Netflix's Noah Centineo successes like TATB or even Sierra Burgess is a Loser.
