This is the best Dracula version I have ever watched. Claes Bang is exceptional in the role and really deserves an award for it - he is tall, dark, extremely handsome, witty, suave and menacing - I could watch him all day and never tire of his performance. I really cannot understand why this series has had some poor comments because it gives a refreshing facelift for Dracula rather than a regurgitation of the same boring standard story..
The settings are very atmospheric, as is the music and the script writing, I think, was perfect. Claes delivers his witty one liners with great aplomb and I also thought (unlike some other comments) that his accent was fantastic. People need to remember that English is not his first language (he is Danish) and he has a mouth full of prosthetic teeth - under the circumstances I think he did darn well. I really hope we see more of Claes Bang on our TV and I do think he would make an absolutely perfect James Bond. I also thought Sister Agatha was a good foil to Dracula and would love to see them in their own show together.
I have watched all 3 episodes several times now and I get more out of them each time I watch. I would highly recommend this series, but you need to watch it with no fixed ideas on what the novel is about as it is an adaptation and not a re-telling of the story. Best thing I've seen on BBC for a long time!!
Additional Note: Even the King of Horror, author Stephen King to be exact, has critically acclaimed the show. Cannot get a better endorsement than that. I urge the general public to write to the BBC to get Claes Bang back on our TV - I have in the hope that some noteworthy Director and/or screenwriter will see just what a talent there is in Bang. There has been the campaign 'BangforBond', perhaps we can also have a 'BangonTV'!! Just a thought.
