I've waited for nearly a decade for the seemingly inevitable remake of a generation of Pokemon I love dearly and I feel as though it was all in vain. Had I known I would be as disappointed as I am now I wouldn't have anticipated these games in excitement for all these years. I hate the creative decisions in it's execution and overall the game lacks a sense of polish. The textures are low res and heavily filtered to apply a...hazy(?) Instagram filter type effect that just does not do it for me. I hate the character models in earnest. Certain font choices seem to make no sense. And this doesn't even begin to mention the lack of substantial new content that Pokemon fans have come to expect with remakes as well as any of the improvements made in the NDS Platinum version. It is true to the original in story and progression with SOME quality of life improvements so I guess it's not too much of a pain to play but I'd honestly just rather boot up my old DS and play the ogs. Overall it just feels like the worst parts of obligatory fan service and new player bait rolled lazily into a game that I wish cost less so I could justify buying it at all. I'm sure some fans will enjoy it though. If you're excited to try it don't let this critique deter you. Give it a go and decide for yourself.
