Joker is a wonderfully dark take on the titular Batman villain that decides to forego the regular trappings of comic movies in favor of a more grounded feel. In the movie, Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) is a damaged man with a rare mental illness that forces him to laugh uncontrollablly, much to his detriment. He tries to hold on to what little he has, even as his terrible life collapses in on itself even further. Broken and beaten down by the world he lives in, he snaps and becomes a dark reflection of the comedian he once dreamed of being. Truly, he lived in a society. 4.5/5
