Denzel Washington can't and won't make a bad movie so this remake is not a bad movie. But the 1960 original is my all-time favorite movie and I have seen it 200 times at least. So no, this remake is ok, even good in spots, and Denzel is Denzel, but really, do you think Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke and company could ever match the skills and star power of the iconic actors in the original - Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, James Coburn, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn and Horst Buchholz are all Oscar-winning or nominated actors and some of the most iconic faces in movie history. The only ringer is Brad Dexter, and his winning personality beats the pants off anybody in the remake. And Eli Wallach is the ultimate bad-guy villain, so bad he's likeable. So no, no cigar, but a game try.
