Not the worst nostalgia-peddling rehash of a 30 year old movie, but that's almost the best thing you could say about it. While it was completely devoid of the originality and creative humor of the original, it was kind of fun. While it was cool to see how 30 years had changed the timeless gags and jokes of the original into tired cliches, you were at times reminded of how great the original movie actually was.
Jermaine Fowler brought charm to an otherwise lazily written and completely uninspired character who essentially did the job of 'generic protagonist', but apart for a completely incongruous musical number that felt more dated than some of the actual 20th century references in the movie, he did fine.
The story was a paint by numbers trope-fest that felt like a low effort and slapdash assemblage of connected scenes, but it still, at least, reflected some of the glow of the original classic.
