Apart from fine (but too-short!) performances by Jamie Lee Curtis as Annette and Billy Lourd as Hannah, we found this film a real turkey, I am afraid, and nearly left part-way through.
Almost everyone playing a part in it is inarticulate, to a great extent, so we found the whole script questionable.
The direction is awful to non-existent. Hardly any dramatic moments at all, and not exploited.
Shot in 16mm, which means, for some reason, a lot of the filming is unclear. A bit of 16mm might have emphasised the club atmosphere.
Almost the whole film is interiors, lots of which is brutal close-ups.
We watch masses of films, in cinemas mostly, and check out the original Gloria Swanson Sunset Boulevard for a great film about a fading star, and All That Jazz for a classic film about a dance club.
