I saw this movie as a photography student back in the 1960's. If I remember correctly, the photographer had to take his film and process it by hand and then string it around his cabin to dry. And then wind it by hand onto a large reel. He had filmed and processed his films for an entire year. About when he was going to conclude filming, his cabin burned down destroying all his years worth of work. He was devastated. Had to seek additional backing for more film, chemicals etc. and once secured he took another year and re-filmed Nanook and his family. What you are seeing here is the second year of filming Nanook.
