You must LOVE the songs of Bacharach to really get into his autobiography. I am 62 and an avid fan and still had to youtube videos to understand what he was talking about and quell my curiosity.
As an English teacher, I found his style to be direct as well as quite juicy, since other famous people from his life interject their POV to juxtapose his own which adds a layer of interest to the mix.
I also had the rare opportunity to meet Burt in person during one of his visits to The Diplomat in Hollywood, FL, back in the late 1970's. He was absolutely magical to be with and indeed has the charisma he is so notorious for and was a wonder to know, since I do believe he is a true genius, but never acted that way.
I loved reading the backstories behind his big hits and how they came to be. I often played his music as background while I read and I felt the passion and power of his talent with every note, even though I cannot read music.
I loved his honest way of telling his story, albeit a bit raunchy but sexy; that was who he was as I remember. A true gentle man and a class act.
His life was not without tragedy and I am glad he didn't shy away from the big issues and brought them to light without judgement.
A fascinating read and I will revisit it soon, after more research.
Just listen to some of his classic songs and get ready to be moved; then read his book. He is a national treasure and still so human.
Love ya always ❤ Gina
