While this movie has too many “cliche” moments it strikes me as being pretty low budget. I left the theatre thinking that if you “didn’t” like it, you might be considered unenlightened in life’s travels. On the contrary, I think that this movie tries too hard and in the end is a real sleeper. Yes there are many moments of reflection, but it seems that many of “the takes” were recycled into the picture. Wash, rinse, repeat. That’s my takeaway. Don’t waste your time on this one. You already know the story, and you haven’t seen it yet.

While I agree with most posters here, I found it difficult to “understand and hear” a lot of the dialogue. It took me 3/4 of the movie to sort out what was going on. Sometimes writers go off into a fantasy world and it becomes difficult to follow their lead. That said, this movie is a rare reveal of some of the dynamics that gay people went through and of course still “suffer” today because of societal norms. I know it’s just a movie, but, emotionally I was looking forward to be moved but found it to be rather rare and poorly executed. Adam is exceptional though, and clearly shows that your childhood has profound affects to your adulthood experience. Shame is childhood based. Parents matter. How sad to be “sentenced” to a life where you don’t fit in.

Thoughtful, provocative, fresh, funny, well acted/ executed. I loved this! I’m surprised of the “low ratings”….for these times it’s quite the escape!

I guess I’m not a dyed in the wool hopeless romantic here. Yes, the movie is slow, the characters not really fully funded, dialogue is anemic at best, and acting is pretty darn “forgettable”, but through it all…..Wait for it, Wait for it, you will probably shed a tear or two at the very end. To be cynical, it won’t be just because it ended. (Phew, finally)

Who says, and I’m paraphrasing, “let’s just get this (trial) over with, I’m O.K. with whatever happens….a guilty person, that’s who.

This was a lot of work to watch! We had to repeat the first two episodes because there were just too many characters introduced in a short time, and, with the writing having plenty of holes and unnecessary layers, in the beginning, just made little sense. It certainly has a surprise ending, but as others have posted there are many weird fillers that are just plain creepy. I am not a fan of writers who think their viewers will figure out what is going on in their twisted heads.

Complex character, yes. Worth two hours of your valuable time? No You will leave this movie wondering what you just witnessed. You won’t care about the characters beyond Colman….they just don’t matter or add much to an otherwise boring movie. We kept wanting to leave, but thought there might be some meaning. OK , she had a tough life…so what!!

Well done! Except for the ending and there about. Convincing everyone sharing notes would have been the key, but it made the movie a lot longer because of it. Yes, I know it’s just a movie, but it really draws you in. All of the acting is superb.

I think it helps to be a fan of Francis McDormands work in this piece. The movie doesn’t move the needle much throughout, but it is raw, and introduces the viewer to a myriad of emotion and social graces. This was the perfect role for Francis, as she can play a “flat role” but pull it off with an occasional grin that feels genuine even in the toughest of times in her life. The movie takes us to a place most of us don’t aspire to, but shows, even without the frills in living, we are left with the human experience. What you take away from this movie will be completely personal based on your own life journey and what you are grateful for or ashamed of at the same time.

You know, I went in excited to see this movie. I left, feeling as though I needed a shower , it “feels” DUSTY! It was also EXTREMELY LOUD! ( no, I don’t use a hearing aid).....this movie is really in your face, I left after 30 min., you will grow tired of the laps for a 2 1/2 hour movie. It’s been years since I walked out of a movie.
